Teaching is a lifelong commitment to the education and learning requirements of students. Success in the provision of education and learning needs of students, can be better achieved through the development of teacher/student/classroom qualities, enabling students to learn in an efficient and effective environment. In today's learning environments, open-ended digital resources (ICT) can support and promote skills in communication, interaction, discovery and problem solving. I believe embracing these qualities will ensure students are given every possible opportunity to excel to the best of their ability, in their future needs and success in every area of their life.
I believe in teaching by providing an environment that embraces and demonstrates qualities that include:
Active: ~ encourage students to be physically active, and encourage students to be actively involved in inclusive learning.
Committed ~ encourage students to show commitment to their learning; and as a teacher, to be committed to teaching them in the best way possible to cater for their needs & learning styles.
Consistent ~ to be consistent in setting, adhering to, and following rules, set by the education facility and the classroom requirements.
Constructivist/Social constructivist approaches to learning ~ children learn in a holistic, child-centered environment that encourages and provides opportunities for developing their own knowledge and understanding of their world.
Discipline ~ consistency in discipline and to take measures to stop or prevent unacceptable behaviours immediately in a caring, safe environment.
Diversity ~ all children taught in an inclusive environment, with an awareness of the range of diversity present in the school and community. This includes collaborative learning with families; community members; other children and teachers.
Encouragement ~ providing encouragement to all students in all areas of their education and learning--and to be brave enough to have a go, in a positive learning environment.
Enthusiasm ~ demonstrate and encourage an environment that is enthusiastic about teaching and learning.
Fairness ~ students have the right to learn in a learning environment displaying fairness, equality, in a firm and welcoming environment.
Friendliness ~ encouraging friendships that are inclusive and free from bullying; prejudices; and racial/ethnic/language discrimination.
Having Fun ~ making learning a fun process-therefore developing in students a desire to want to come to school each day, and embrace the learning of new skills.
Hands on Learning ~develop and incorporate programs that embrace hands on learning for all, and involve students in what they would like to learn. "I do, we do, you do", and develop critical and creative thinking.
Honesty ~ encourage and develop the importance of honesty and being open in their environment and learning.
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) ~ students need to be provided with opportunities that support their learning needs in a world dominated by technologies.
Knowing Students ~ to get to know them-- their interests, hobbies, families, and learning styles.
Motivation ~ students should be encouraged to learn and achieve to the best of their ability through motivation.
Organisation ~ to develop organisational skills in students, and continually assess my own organisational skills–being prepared in advance before lessons.
Reflection ~ regularly reflect on presentation, delivery and teaching to students, asking what worked; what didn’t; how can it be improved.
Respect ~ for themselves; other students, teachers and staff, visitors; property, and a respect for the personal values of everyone.
Responsibility ~ for their own learning and behaviours.
Safety ~ a classroom where students feel safe, cared for, and cared about.
Self Improvement ~ constantly look for ways to improve delivery of teaching; skill knowledge; learning practices and the advancement in technology to keep up to date. To also assist students in their own self-improvement, without a fear of failure.
Teamwork ~ to work as part of a team for a common goal.
Trust ~ developing skills to encourage students to make and trust decisions they make, teaching right from wrong, and encouraging the development of right choices.
I will strive to achieve the best possible outcomes for students in my care, to hopefully make a difference in their lives.
